Halt the Salt Facebook Campaign

We hope to motivate our program participants in making healthy food choices with our weekly “Less Salt Saturday” campaign. Each Thursday, our program will be holding a cooking demo, in which we will teach participants how to prepare low-sodium versions of classic Russian dishes. We will provide them with the skills they need to recognize high sodium culprits in everyday recipes and the confidence in choosing healthier alternatives.

The campaign will be driven by an at-home “cook off”. Every Friday evening, we will post a classic recipe on Facebook, known as the “challenge recipe”. This recipe will be filled with not so healthy, high-sodium ingredients. The challenge is for participants to show us how they would “halt the salt” by reinventing the recipe, with healthy low-sodium ingredients. Participants are to post their revised version of the recipe. They must also cook the recipe at home, and post a photo of the finished dish. All posts must be labeled with the hashtag #LessSaltSaturday. Participants have until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday to submit their post. One post per person will be valid.

So what’s in it for them? Participants will be entered in a random drawing to win a weekly prize, Each week’s prize will be mentioned every Friday, when the challenge recipe is posted. Possible prizes include, but are not limited to, a FitBit watch, $100 gift card to Brighton Bazaar, Fabulous Touch Spa gift package, etc. One lucky winner will be selected at random. The winner will be announced via Facebook, every Sunday.          That person will be able to receive their prize after the following nutrition education class.

We aim at making this campaign educational, motivational, interactive, and fun!
